Comparison of Closure versus Non-closure of Buccal Mucosal Graft Harvesting Site in Urethroplasty.

Background: Buccal mucosal graft is commonly used in substitution urethroplasty for the treatment of anterior urethral strictures. However, optimal management donor site remains a topic debate. This prospective study aimed to compare outcomes and morbidity associated with closure versus non-closure buccal harvesting urethroplasty.
 Methodology: A total 60 patients strictures underwent urethroplasty. The were divided into two groups: group (non-closure, n=30) B (closure, n=30). Post-operative pain, perioral numbness, early return diet, swelling cheek assessed compared between groups. Pain was measured using Visual Analog Scale (VAS), statistical analysis performed appropriate tests.
 Results: mean age 35.73 ± 13.42 years, length stricture 58.45 26.87 mm. pain scores through VAS comparable groups at different time points. Perioral numbness observed 43.33% 30.0% (p=0.284). Early diet reported 40.0% 70.0% (p=0.019). Swelling noted 53.33% 33.33% (p=0.118).
 Conclusion: suggests that results less post-operative lower numbness. it increased cheek. These findings support use as viable alternative site. Further research larger sample sizes longer-term follow-up warranted validate these assess additional such recurrence cosmetic outcomes.
